Built for the Mission: Fremont Fire Department
The Mission
Serving a 90-square-mile fire district with large non-hydranted areas requires an apparatus that can do more than transport water. Fremont Fire Department needed to replace an aging tanker while improving operational efficiency across its response area.
Rather than purchasing another traditional tanker, the department sought a pumper-tanker capable of handling rural structure fires, supporting mutual aid and reducing the need to dispatch multiple apparatus to the same incident.
The Challenge
For Fremont, a standard pumper wasn't enough. The department needed an apparatus that could:
Serve as a first-out engine
Carry a large onboard water supply for non-hydranted areas
Deliver full pumping capability
Handle a wide range of emergency responses with a single vehicle
Balancing water capacity, pump performance and versatility in one frontline apparatus required a purpose-built solution.
The Spencer Solution
Working closely with the department, Spencer engineered a custom pumper-tanker around Fremont's operational needs. The apparatus combines the water capacity needed for rural response with the pumping capability and equipment configuration required of a first-out engine.
That combination gives Fremont the flexibility to respond across both hydranted and non-hydranted areas without limiting the apparatus to a single role.
The Result
Today, Fremont has one apparatus that can function as a frontline engine, provide a dependable water supply and support a wider range of responses across its 90-square-mile district.
The pumper-tanker gives the department greater operational flexibility while reducing its reliance on sending multiple apparatus when one purpose-built truck can meet the need.
