GFD apparatus featured in national trade magazine

By Graafschap Fire Department

As firefighters, we have to train, practice, review, and then do it again. Beyond the bi-monthly group training classes, we subscribe to various publications and trade magazines. These offer up-to-date information on hazards and trends (good and bad). They also highlight new apparatus and innovations that keep us educated so that we can make good informed decisions when purchasing trucks and equipment.

In the May issue of Fire Apparatus Magazine, we were proud to see our new truck pictured in an article about Spencer Manufacturing in South Haven. The article can be seen here. 740, as it’s known to us, is a 2025 Spencer Pumper/Tanker that went into service late last year. It has been to a few fires and proves itself very worthy every time out. The quality of workmanship and pride in the build will be with us for many years to come.

Spencer Manufacturing is celebrating their 40th year in business. GFD took a chance on them early when they ordered a Pumper/Tanker in 1994. It (741) has served our area well and will be retired next year when our next Spencer build is complete.

Buying local has many advantages. For 32 years GFD has been protecting the residents of Laketown and western Fillmore Townships with a Spencer Truck. Fire trucks break even with the best of care. When that truck needs manufacturer level service and/or repairs, it goes one county away and is back in service much sooner than if it had to be sent out of state.

A strong relationship has been built with the people at Spencer. We appreciate that relationship and wish them much success in the future!
