Spencer Fire Trucks Builds Light Rescue for Lima (OH) Fire Department

Lee Short, Lima Fire’s deputy chief, says the department answered 6,474 calls last year, including 53 structure fires. “Our rescue truck was a 2004 EVI heavy rescue that ran a lot of calls and started showing its age,” he points out. “In 2015, we got a Ford Expedition that we called Rescue 2, which went to structure fires and motor vehicle accidents (MVAs) in order to save wear and tear on the heavy rescue. But, we had to rethink our rescue response and put a game plan together.”

The department formed a truck committee to look at Lima Fire’s needs, and it determined that the equipment on the heavy rescue wasn’t used much, at least not at a typical fire or rescue scene. “Our truck committee looked at all the vendors and options available to us and chose Spencer Fire Trucks for a new light rescue,” Short says. “We took a lot of equipment off the heavy rescue and put it on three trailers that we pull with Ford F-350 and F-250 pickups.”
